On May 4-5, the World Relays took place in Nassau (Bahamas). The competition program included five Olympic disciplines (mixed 4×400 meters, men’s and women’s 4×400 and 4×100), and in all of them, in addition to medals, 14 licenses to Paris were also played. A mixed Ukrainian foursome is also among the lucky owners. Such a dream “ticket” for our country was won by Oleksandr Pohorilko, who at the end of April broke the national record in the 400-meter race, Tetyana Melnyk, Danylo Danylenko and Anna Ryzhikova.
The World Relays ended with the finals, four of which were won by the Americans.
First, the mixed 4×400-meter relay team from the USA consisting of Matthew Bowling, Lynna Irby-Jackson, Willington Wright and Kendall Ellis crossed the finish line first with a new championship record (3 10.73 min), not missing the lead, in particular, Femke Ball. The world record holder in the 400-meter indoor race entered the final stage in fourth place, but managed to gain two positions and lead the Netherlands to second place (3:11.45 min).
In a few minutes, the American women’s 4×100 meter foursome broke the championship record. Tamari Davis, Gaby Thomas, Celera Barnes and Melissa Jefferson all beat the 10-year-old mark set by their compatriots in Nassau by three-hundredths (41.85s).
The men’s 4×100-meter relay team brought the third victory in a row for the USA. Courtney Lindsey, Kenny Bednarek, Kyrie King and Noah Lyles won the final in a season-best 37.40s. Canadians with Andre de Grasse in the final stage are second (37.89 s). The Italians crossed the finish line third, but were disqualified. So the bronze medals went to the French (38.44 s).
The women’s 4×400 meters team was also unmatched. Kvanera Gayes, Gaby Thomas, Bailey Lear and Alexis Holmes won in a world best of 3:21.70.
The only relay in which the USA won was the 4×400 meters. The Americans were disqualified in the first round and therefore did not run in the final. Busang Kollen Kebinachipi, Letsile Tebogo, Leungo Scotch and Baiyapo Ndori from Botswana became the first with the best result of the season in the world (2:59.11 min).
